For my first visit to a Tacoma Rainiers game in several years, I was looking for a mid-priced hotel within a reasonable driving distance to the ballpark (read about my visit to the ballpark here). The Best Western Lakewood fit the bill. It is about 15-minute drive from the ballpark or a 40-minute bus commute on Pierce Transit Route #2. The hotel is about a 20-minute drive to downtown Tacoma, but is only 14 minutes from Tacoma Mall. Additionally, it is less than 10 minutes to great outdoor spots like American Lake Park and Fort Steilacoom Park.
2 queen beds room
Although I was traveling with my wife, we chose a two queen beds room because it was the best rate. Looks can be a bit deceiving, as the hotel is an older motor lodge. However, the room is recently updated and has all the amenities people expect like a desk, a flat screen TV, a microwave, a refrigerator, and a coffee maker. The desk while functional is a bit small, so it is not ideal for a business traveler who may need space for paperwork in addition to a laptop. The room is large enough to easily accommodate two adults, but luggage storage may be an issue for some travelers. Floor space is limited, but there is ample room for suitcases by the vanity.
The bathroom vanity is separate from the shower and toilet. The separation leads to a large vanity, which has ample space for two people to use in the morning. It is by the vanity where guests will find the best storage area for their luggage.
Parking
The Best Western Lakewood provides complimentary parking to guests.
Amenities
Outdoor pool.
The hotel has an outdoor pool, but does not have a fitness center.
Dining
The Best Western Lakewood offers a complimentary hot breakfast. However, I skipped it because Tacoma has several restaurants that are known for great brunch menus.
Recapping the experience
The Best Western Lakewood is an excellent option for travelers trying to save money when visiting the Tacoma area. The exterior of the hotel is deceiving, but the rooms are clean, comfortable, and furnished with everything a person needs. It is easy to get a quiet night’s sleep with comfortable beds and plenty of pillow choices. With a location a location in central Lakewood, the hotel is close to a lot of attractions. Additionally, it is about 20 minutes to any of the major sights in Tacoma. So, the Best Western Lakewood is a great spot for families wanting to explore the South Sound on a budget.
Disclosure: Travel Tacoma + Pierce County hosted my one-night stay at the Best Western Lakewood. As usual, all words and opinions are my own.
